Definitions, in plain terms

• OEM — Original Equipment Manufacturing. You provide the design (shape, faces, effects, sometimes a custom mould) and the factory manufactures it exactly to your spec. You own the design and IP; you carry the design work and usually a higher minimum and longer lead time.
• ODM — Original Design Manufacturing. The factory provides an existing design, and you customize it — colors, numbering, packaging, minor tweaks — and sell it as your brand. Faster, cheaper, lower risk; the base design isn't exclusive to you.
